Frequently asked questions
How do I check a contractor license in Texas?
Plumbers are licensed by the TSBPE (tsbpe.texas.gov), and electricians and AC/heating contractors by the TDLR (tdlr.texas.gov). Search here by license number, name or phone, then confirm on the official registry. Texas has no state license for general contractors or roofers.
How do I check a contractor license in California?
All contractor licenses are issued by the CSLB (cslb.ca.gov). In California, any job worth $1,000 or more in labor and materials must be done by a licensed contractor. Here you see the license class (for example C-36 plumbing) and when it expires.
How do I check a contractor license in Florida?
Construction and electrical contractor licenses are registered with the DBPR (myfloridalicense.com). "Certified" licenses are valid statewide; "registered" licenses only in the city or county where they were issued.
What does "Disciplinary action on record" mean?
The state registry recorded a disciplinary action on that license. It does not always stop them from working: read the details on the official registry before you hire.
Is this the official registry?
No. It is a copy of the official registries, with active licenses only for the trades Pros411 covers, updated October 22, 2026. Always confirm on the state website before you hire.
